A Guide to Garlic Barriers

Garlic is an age-old insect repellent on plants. I is completely natural, organic, and effective – which is why it is our first choice at Ponderosa Pecan Ranch.

In this article, we will take a look at what a Garlic Barrier is, why and how it is used, and its advantages over other harmful pesticides.

What is a Garlic Barrier?

We use Garlic Barrier AG+A Garlic Barrier is a spray made of very strong garlic extract and water. It is sprayed on plants and other farm organisms in order to keep insects away. Essentially, it is a pesticide that is completely natural and hence does not harm the farm in anyway. It can prevent insects from harming plants, as well as birds from eating fruit crops like berries, figs, apples, pears, and cherries.

Garlic Barriers can also be used for deworming of sheep. This makes it even more useful considering that it is becoming increasingly difficult for farmers to eliminate worms from both organic and non-organic sheep. Since worms are found to have developed immunity to most pharmaceutical products, using a Garlic Barrier to get rid of worms in sheep is the best way for farmers to take care of their cattle.

How is Garlic Barrier Made?

The garlic used in Garlic Barriers is not the same as the garlic you find in supermarkets: it is a lot stronger and more potent than that variety. It is then mixed with other ingredients such as oils and water to give the concentrate special efficacy and ensure that it is just the right consistency to work as a barrier.

Once the concentrate is ready, it is further mixed with water. About one gallon is mixed with 100 gallons of water. This amount covers 10 to 12 acres of row crops and about 5 acres of orchards.

How to Use Garlic Barriers?

Garlic Barriers, which can come in the form of sprays or oils, are pretty easy and convenient to use. You can spray it in the furrow on top of the seed that is planted. Additionally, it can also be sprayed inside the furrow with seedlings. This will enable you to repel nematodes as well as other underground creatures that can cause a problem to the plants.

Although a Garlic Barrier should work sufficiently well mixed just with water, it can work even better if you follow some extra care tips. For example, if you ensure that the overall pH of the total mixture is between 5.5 to 6.0, you can get to work even better. You don’t want it to have a high pH level, because that has an adverse impact on the efficacy of the product.

Other than that, it is generally recommended to use the mixture on plants between 7:30 am to 11:00 am. This is when the plants are the most receptive, and hence this is when the product is likely to work the best.

When it comes to deworming, using a Garlic Barrier is just as easy as using it for the plants! The Garlic Barrier concentrate for deworming is essentially just garlic juice. It is recommended to give your sheep ⅕ ounce of garlic juice mixed with water 6 times during the year in order to effectively deworm the cattle.

If you are planning to deworm a large flock of sheep with a Garlic Barrier, one thing to keep in mind is to not add garlic juice to the sheep’s watering trough. Although this may seem like the easier way to go about feeding garlic, it is not as effective because it will turn the water rancid in a short while, and the sheep might not consume it, to begin with.

As such, the more preferable way is to mix the garlic juice with water, vegetable oil, and add that to some leafy food for the sheep such as kelp. This way, the sheep will more readily consume the food and it can help you with deworming your flock.

Advantages of Garlic Barrier?

There are many benefits and advantages that you can reap by using the Garlic Barrier. These include:

  • Amazing efficacy on farms.
  • Safe around people, pets, animals, and fish when used properly.
  • No garlic taste on any crops.
  • No garlic odor after 30 minutes of spraying.
  • No garlic taste on fruit at all.
  • No re-entry time so you can spray up to the day of harvest.
  • Kills adult insects on contact.
  • Works on many insects including beetles, caterpillar eggs, aphids, ants, grasshopper, leafhopper, leafminer, and many others.
  • If refrigerated, it can last up to 3 or 4 years.
  • Can also be used to treat goats.

Final Takeaway

Garlic Barrier is a much better option for insect control and deworming! If you are running an organic farm, you must opt for a Garlic Barrier instead of other harmful chemicals. Ponderosa Pecan Ranch believes in 100% organic farming, and hence our first choice is Garlic BArrier when it comes to taking care of our crops and animals.
