The Keyline/Yeoman plow was developed by P.A. Yeoman in the 1950s as a way to increase water retention and decrease soil erosion on the rangelands of Australia. It has become an integral part of regenerative agriculture, keyline design systems, and permaculture design.
What is Keyline Plowing?
Keyline Plowing is a type of plowing that goes into the subsoil to increase water retention and soil health by breaking up the soil without disturbing the soil layers.
The keyline plow, on its own, will boost the fertility and water retention of the land. However, the best way to use it would be by using compost tea, seeding, and/or fertilizers while using the keyline plow. Using these methods at the same time would boost the fertility of the soil more than just using the keyline plow by itself.
We offer Keyline Plow rentals for $1,700 per week + $4mile delivery fee (not conted against rental days). Call (346) 216 8339 or contact us here for more info and to let us know the plow configuration you would like.
The Keyline plow has the highest impact on compacted soils that have dried out, but can still improve soils of all types.
The crevices (the plow creates with its subsoilers) directs the flow of water into the crevices, allowing the soil to absorb it. It is designed with seeders that drop seeds into the crevices at the same time. You may also want to have to crumbler running behind the plow to break down any chunks of dirt that pop up(typically in clay soils)
